The Musicians.Ear blog is a space for me to share thoughts, tips and tricks, opinions and life stories as a musician and someone who is going to school to be an Audiologist (more on this in a blog post to come).
This first blog post has a lot of potential to share my passion for Musicians.Ear, all that it stands for and all that I hope it to be. However, in the face of COVID-19 and all that is happening in the world right now, it almost feels irresponsible to focus solely on healthy hearing measures.
I'll start off this post by talking about the healthy hearing habits that people currently in self-quarantine can practice, and will visit more hearing-related habits in future posts!
For those of you who are no longer in school during this time and are musicians:
1) Practice your instruments with hearing protection
2) Give your ears time to rest in between practicing sessions
3) Practice your instrument at a softer than normal level to get the repetitions in
For those of you who are no longer in school and are listening to earbuds OR who are working from home and using earbuds:
1) Make sure you can hear conversation happening around you
2) When in doubt, turn the volume down
3) Give your ears time to rest... in other words, take those earbuds out of your ears for a while to let your ears rest and breathe
During this time, your overall health and well-being is my number one concern. While healthy hearing practices are important, staying healthy during this time is even more important. I hope that you can use Musicians.Ear as a resource if you have questions or want to check out how to protect your ears in order to hear for years.
Now is a great time to check out all of the information on this website in order to apply these healthy hearing practices once everything resumes in the future.
For now, do what you can to stay healthy and be kind to those around you. I know that times are hard right now, but please keep safe and stay well.
Best wishes,
Nicole
